Colorado increases possession limit

One of more heartwarming efforts in Cannabis legalization is seeing money go to those most affected by the War on Drugs. These are typically communities with a high percentage of people of color. It’s being written into bills in Illinois and New Jersey, and more movement is occurring in Colorado.

Since being the first state to legalize recreational weed in 2012, Colorado has continued to lead by example. Governor Jared Polis just signed legislation that would give out loans, grants, and assistance to businesses with “social equity licenses,” which are given to those most impacted by decades of anti-marijuana policy.

It’s initially funded with $4 million of marijuana taxes and will decide to appropriate more money in the fiscal year 2022-2023.

Read the bill here.

Along with this legislation, the state is also doubling the amount of legal weed possession from 1 ounce to 2. States across the country have been using the 1 ounce limit as their default parameters (except for Maine, which allows an impressive 2.5 ounces). Colorado doubling this limit will probably lead to other states doing the same.
