It was all over the news, but last week Hunter Biden was convicted for lying on a form for buying a gun. He claimed he was not using drugs, and that was later revealed to be false.
Many, including his lawyers, have argued that this antiquated law is still the case for marijuana users, and are we really going to enforce it in that realm? This is where some Republicans have landed as well.
Thomas Massie, Representative from Kentucky, tweeted in regards to how silly this case really is.
“There are millions of marijuana users who own guns in this country, and none of them should be in jail for purchasing or possessing a firearm against current laws.”
The partisanship is still there, considering just above this he wrote, “Hunter might deserve to be in jail for something, but purchasing a gun is not it.”
Even more high profile Republicans agree that this is a little bit of hogwash.
Matt Gaetz wrote “The Hunter Biden gun conviction is kinda dumb tbh.”
There’s been a push to remove marijuana from this list of illegal drugs, considering it doesn’t make much sense. Hopefully the extra light this Hunter Biden case brings to the issue will wake some people up.
