Dave Portnoy, the outspoken founder of Barstool Sports, has voiced his support for Amendment 3, a Florida ballot measure that seeks to legalize recreational marijuana for adults 21 and over. Over the weekend, Portnoy shared his thoughts on social media, calling for Florida voters to approve the amendment in the upcoming November election.

In a video posted to X (formerly Twitter), Portnoy made his case while enjoying a laid-back Sunday afternoon filled with football, pizza, and cannabis. “It’s about freedom,” Portnoy said, puffing smoke from a joint. He added, “Florida, I want to be able to watch football, eat pizza, and smoke. We’re all adults here. Vote ‘yes’ on 3.”

Portnoy’s post quickly gained traction, accumulating nearly 16 million views by Monday afternoon, along with 73,000 likes and thousands of shares and comments. His endorsement of Amendment 3 adds to the growing list of public figures supporting marijuana legalization, including former President Donald Trump, boxer Mike Tyson, and both Republican and Democratic state legislators.

However, opposition remains strong. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, hedge fund billionaire Ken Griffin, and Congressman Matt Gaetz are among the critics, citing concerns about the constitutional impact of the amendment. Conservative commentators like Matt Walsh and Jason Whitlock also weighed in, questioning whether legalizing cannabis has genuinely improved life in other states.

Despite the debate, support for Amendment 3 appears to be growing. A recent poll showed that 65% of Florida voters favor the measure, up from 63% earlier this year. If approved, the amendment would legalize possession of up to 3 ounces of cannabis and allow licensed businesses to sell marijuana products.

With the November election approaching, Amendment 3 has become a focal point in Florida’s broader conversation about personal freedoms and state laws, mirroring national trends toward cannabis legalization.
