Hospital visits for people who exhibit signs of “scromiting” is rising sharply in the United States.
Scromiting is a condition that can occur from heavy use of highly potent marijuana where nausea and vomiting become inescapable and uncontrollable. It’s also typically paired with intense abdominal pain.
The condition, technically called Cannabis Hyperemesis Syndrome, rose by 16% from October to May of this year, according to researchers at the CDC.
Part of the increase is simply because it’s a new diagnosis, and previously there was less awareness. Now that it has its own diagnosis code, we should expect to see it popping up more and more.
However, marijuana use, and especially higher THC marijuana use, is also on the rise. Considering that scromiting is a relatively newer phenonemon, it seems many people will have to learn the hard way where their THC limits really are.
