New Poll, A Large Majority Of Republican Senators Support A Variety Of Marijuana Reform

A large majority of Republicans have come out supporting a wide variety of marijuana reforms, a new poll shows. This also comes in the wake of GOP congresspeople talking about bipartisan reforms that directly affect the way the states approach marijuana. The survey, done by the National Cannabis Roundtable found that most Republicans support incremental reforms. These incremental reforms include federal non-interference in state marijuana markets (76%), expungements in legal states (56%), and treating the cannabis industry the same as other businesses (73%).

Rep. Dave Joyce (R-OH) has largely been a part of these bipartisan negotiations supporting multiple different pieces of legislation such as the “SAFE Banking Plus” piece. SAFE Banking has generally been pushed by Democrats including Chuck Schumer (D-NY) who has widely backed the bill.

In an interview with MarijuanaMoment, Joyce told reporters that while nothing is set in stone, they are working to provide military veterans with cannabis cards and other benefits. These steps towards supporting marijuana reform by Republican congresspeople is a great step towards widespread legalization in the United States.

Another Republican who is supporting this bipartisan marijuana reform is former Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO). In a recent press release he said this about cannabis, “We’ll likely see support for legal cannabis continue to increase this November when Republicans in at least a half dozen states and counties vote on legalization and other issues…Which is why it’s time for Congress to enact commonsense cannabis reform this year, starting with key pieces of legislation like SAFE Banking”

More Republicans are expected to come out supporting cannabis reform within the next few years. This comes as the drug becomes more common and more widely accepted amongst the people of the USA. Hopefully with all this support, federal legalization as well as statewide legalization will occur soon.
