Some Trump supporter reactions to a potential rescheduling

It seems Trump has decided that rescheduling marijuana has become popular enough for him to do it, and now we’re all just waiting for the announcement to happen. This is good news! Lots of questions remain, including what a “behind the counter” situation looks like for marijuana, but scheduling in the in the third category would open up so many more opportunities for research.

But the reactions are pretty varied across the board, and there are lots in the Republican world that are not happy with this. Axios has compiled a few responses, including from Matt Walsh, a prominent commentator on the right.

“No country of potheads has ever thrived, or ever achieved anything at all. Every city that legalized it became an even bigger shithole basically overnight,” he wrote on X.

Not sure where these countries of potheads are on the map, but I digress.

Jack Posobiec also had some harsh words on his podcast. “America deserves better, our kids deserve better, I don’t want to have to be smelling weed anytime I take my kids anywhere in a city or a national park.”

Michael Knowles, a Republican podcaster, spoke to Axios and tried to explain the categorization of vices. He described alcohol and tobacco as “more traditional pleasures” and that marijuana is the “liberal intoxicant of choice.” It’s an interesting argument to wedge an entire viewpoint on.

Then, there’s the more libertarian side of the Trumposphere that has had a much more positive reaction to the news.

“A LOT of misinformation is flying around about Trump’s stance on marijuana. The truth? His openness to rescheduling is research driven and shows he’s listening to the countless veterans whose lives have been changed for the better by its medicinal benefits,” wrote CJ Pearson on X.

Marijuana is a fascinating issue for Republicans. On the more traditional side, through tradition and decades of inertia, conservatives are inherently against legalization. However, the newer, Rogansphere group of libertarian-leaning anti-establishers are all for it. The gap in-between is right where Trump is balancing, and we’ll see where he lands. For now, he seems a little unsure himself.

“Medical, for pain and various things, I’ve heard some pretty good things, but for other things, I’ve heard some pretty bad things,” he said on Monday.
