The Candidates running for Presidency all have the pressure of marijuana legalization back home

We officially have a full lineup of the election for the presidency now that Kamala has chosen Tim Walz to be her running mate. So the contenders are Donald Trump with JD Vance, and Kamala Harris with Tim Walz. All of their home states have one thing in common: they’re pretty friendly towards marijuana.

JD Vance’s hometown of Ohio has just today opened up a legal market for marijuana, with long lines forming at all the open dispensaries. Kamala comes from California, which has the largest market in the country. Walz’s state of Minnesota has had legal weed for a year now. Trump’s “hometown” is debatable whether or not it’s Florida or New York, but either way, legal weed sales are in their future. Say what you will about Florida (including a $12 million push to stop it from happening) but things are looking good for the ballot initiative to legalize marijuana in the fall.

This is all a pretty positive sign that, no matter the side that wins, marijuana is almost certainly going to become more and more open to the public in the future. We have a rescheduling to look forward to this year, but I don’t expect a Harris/Walz ticket to stop there. Walz has been very favorable to legal marijuana consistently.

And Trump, ever desperate for public approval, will eventually cave once the polls become too irresistible. There isn’t much to stand on in opposition for both Trump and Vance if both of their hometowns have markets open for legal sales.

Things are looking up for the next four years. It took a little longer than anticipated, but I don’t expect this to be an issue worth discussing come the next election, four years from now.
