Senate Bill Filed that would allow Marijuana Advertising in TV & Radio

Advertising for marijuana has been this ultra-confusing road of uncertainty ever since states began to legalize the plant a decade ago. Some places take a hard stance against it, and some take a stance of not really having a stance at all.

A new bill filed in the Senate is trying to make this unclear situation much more clear.

Titled Secure and Fare Enforcement Advertising Act (SAFE), the bill would stop the FCC from rejecting ads and penalizing broadcasters for airing any commercials for marijuana as long as the broadcast was made in a place where marijuana is legal.

It would essentially put marijuana ads in the same category as alcohol commercials, because they would have to come with one caveat.

Every ad would also have this disclosure: “This product has not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. There may be health risks associated with consumption of this product.”

If this passes, hopefully it will eventually be followed with a bill allowing ads on social platforms.
